Public Opinion
“Everyone” knows that American’s don’t want offshore drilling and that most of us are upset by Arizona’s “carding” of suspected illegals, right? Just turn on the TV News and you’ll see stories about California protesters outside the refineries and the President shutting down offshore ventures. Watch CNN and you’ll hear about protests by illegals and boycotts costing the people of the state of Arizona millions of dollars.
I can talk for hours on this but I’ll try to keep it short:
1. “Carding” in Arizona was decided by politicians. Boycotts run the people – get this – individuals out of business and puts even more burden on our hurting economy that everyone *says* they are concerned about.
2. If they are here illegally then:
- They should be sent home.
- They should have to follow the rules all the other law abiding legal immigrants do without skipping to the front of the line.
- They should not be protesting a ‘foreign government’ they have not helped to build and, in fact, defy by just being here the way they are instead of freely by our invitation if they do it properly.
- They are not “undocumented”… they are law breakers, by definition, and should be treated as such.
3. Oil is what we are geared for. None of the alternative energy is efficient enough to switch to today other than nuclear but that’s evil incarnate to hear the protesters tell it.
4. Without oil we not only have an energy crisis but we also have a plastic shortage and many other goods of which oil is used in the production – everything from the screen or printer you are reading this on to prosthetic limbs. Even the bicycle seat the protester rode to the rally.
I submit that those who speak out against the loud-crowd are not rebels, minorities, or uncaring people. They are mainstream America. They are people like you and me who happens to think that oil is not evil, alternative is unfeasible at this time and if you break our laws and you’re not a citizen then you have no Constitutional protections. Even worse that at the same time our President wants to give illegals Constitutional protection he also is pushing to revoke the citizenship of suspected terrorists. I’m sure our Founding Fathers would revolt again if the government of their day told them that if they were suspected of breaking certain laws that the Constitution didn’t apply to them and they would no longer be American citizens.
I also submit the following two surveys I saw today. Granted, surveys are statistics and can be molded to fit any theory but what else do we have to go on regarding public opinion?
NBC/WSJ poll: Six in 10 Americans favor more offshore drilling http://bit.ly/cYEIpd
NBC/WSJ poll: Nearly two-thirds of Americans back Arizona law http://bit.ly/9ASECb
So, shall we continue to believe what we see on TV or shall we trust God that if we do our best and believe Him and serve Him then He will see to it that we are not harmed?
